About
The Abattoir Building is one of the buildings located at the Agriculture Center along northbound Interstate 45.
The one-story building has been used as a slaughterhouse since its construction. In the mid-1980s, the meat processing functions in the Meats and Milk Processing Lab were relocated to a newly-completed addition on the north side of this building; hence this building is sometimes dubbed the Meats Lab.
Students enrolled in upper-level Agriculture classes cut and package beef (including Bearkat Beef), pork, lamb, and other non-traditional meat products from this building [1].
