Anne Nugent Gibbs
Anne Gibbs was the wife of Huntsville Mayor W. S. Gibbs and sponsor of the Literacy Club, helping increase interest in literary activities among girls on the SHNI campus. The Anne Gibbs Society, a girl’s social society founded in the early Twentieth Century, was named in her honor. The society became founding members of the Delta Zeta sorority in 1959; when the sorority disbanded the on-campus residence on Sorority Hill reverted to a name honoring Gibbs.
