Harriet Smith
Harriet Frances Smith was a native of Huntsville and a graduate of Sam Houston Normal Institute. After serving as director of music at Texas Christian University, she taught geography at Sam Houston State Teachers College from 1914 to 1941. Harriett and her sisters Mary (1861-1954) and Emma (1868-1952) lived in a house on the corner of Avenue J and Sixteenth Street, on the site of the former St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Smith Hall is named in her honor.
